BEC signs contract for management services

The Beartooth Electric Cooperative last week signed a three-year contract with Lower Valley Energy of Afton, Wyo., to provide management services for the Red Lodge-based rural power organization. The new management agreement could save Beartooth more than $500,000 a year in mostly operational expenses based on a preliminary independent analysis, said Arleen Boyd, a Beartooth board member, in a news release this week.
The agreement must be approved by the Wyoming Public Service Commission and the federal Rural Utilities Service in a review process expected to take at least 60 days, Boyd said. LVE is an electric cooperative that serves northwestern Wyoming, to Yellowstone National Park and areas of eastern Idaho. Beartooth’s service area extends in to northern Wyoming.
