— Arleen Boyd of Fishtail, representative of the Red Lodge-based Beartooth Electric Cooperative, wistfully speaking of two other members of the Southern Montana Electric cooperative that managed to reach settlements to escape from the bankrupt Billings-based co-op.

Beartooth customers, including Boyd, are paying some of the highest electricity rates in the nation afterthe Southern Montana co-op collapsed into a heap.

Yellowstone Valley Electric has permission to leave the six-member co-op already, and the Great Falls City Commission this week approved its own settlement with the Southern Montana trustee; each will pay a few million dollars to leave. Four other co-ops remain in the case.
